Missions

1. Trip to Clyde, NC to help clean up from flooding from hurricanes. (Disaster Relief)

2. Last April we sent a group to Brooklyn, NY to help with a project there. They are building a center for future volunteers to use when traveling to New York for other mission projects.

3. We donated materials to the NC Baptist men's Fair ministry, ministering to the workers at the Dixie Classic Fair. Personal toiletry items, clothing and blankets were donated for these workers who may see no other Christian presence during the year. This was our second year to take part in this ministry.

4. A team from several different churches (including NVF) came together to make and package lunches for the participants in the Special Olympics.  The team prepared, packaged and delivered over 3,000 lunches. This ministry is an every year one, too.

5. Our youth, and others, participated in the World Vision 30 hour famine to raise awareness of world hunger as well as raise money to combat hunger.

6. The Crop Walk helps raise food and money to help feed the hungry, differing from the 30 hour famine in that more of the proceeds stay to help locally.

7. Folks from NVF volunteer monthly at the Soup Kitchen in Reidsville and donate food regularly for both the Soup Kitchen and the Hands of God ministry.

8. In a continuing ministry started here at NVF, volunteers helped collect, repair and fix-up, and then deliver bicycles to children (and others) who could use a bike and may not be able to get one otherwise. This year we gave away twenty three (twenty one bicycles, one tricycle and one riding toy tractor).

9. At Christmas time NVF folks put together Operation Christmas Child shoe box gifts, Salvation Army Angel Tree gift packages,  gifts for kids at the Second Chance Ranch in Danbury as well as helping  local families.

10. We also did Easter shoe boxed for tsunami relief. This is similar to the Operation Christmas Child, but was a special drive for the tsunami victims.

11. Every spring, the first Sunday after Easter, NVF hosts "Biker Sunday" which is an outreach to the biker community. This involves a bike show, a special service and a cook-out type dinner on the church grounds. Trophies are handed out for the bike show winners after the service. After the cook out, there is a group ride. Next year's event will be the seventh year.

12. NVF hosts several Red Cross Blood Drives each year.

13. NVF is involved in raising money for and awareness of the fight against cancer through the "Relay for Life" program. This year (2006) we hosted the first (of what we plan on becoming an annual event) "Swinging or a Cure" golf tournament. The tournament raised a great deal of money for the fight against cancer.

14. The NVF youth group hosts the "Rock-in-Him" youth led worship service several times each year in concert with other area churches youth groups.

15. Some of our members helped with a Habitat for Humanity house here in our local area.

16. We are involved with disaster relief through the NC Baptist Men, a disaster relief organization. Through this association NVF has sent volunteers to many disaster areas, the latest being the Gulf coast areas that were devastated by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. Some other areas include Honduras, Mozambique, Florida after hurricane Andrew, and eastern NC after hurricane Floyd, as well as to the New York City area and to the Pentagon after the attacks of 9/11.

New projects are always being considered.  If you would like more information, contact Paul Hooker,  Pastor of Mission Development.
